La Inteligencia originates in Huehuetenango, Guatemala and is a washed process. It comes from the Catuai and Bourbon plant varietals. When cupped, it embodies the tasting notes of toasted marshmallow, lemon, and dried fruit.
Itiel Vásquez was born into coffee farming. He and his wife purchased 34 hectares of land, and started their farm, La Inteligencia. Itiel does not use any herbicides on his farm and only picks the most mature cherries. La Inteligencia produces micro lot coffees – a small lot of a single coffee variety that comes from one area and is traceable to a particular region. Each bean from the lot undergoes the same climate, soil, altitude, and processing.
Micro lots help producers ensure their coffees are traceable and distinctive, and that are more carefully sorted and processed.
